What is SME & SME @ UH?

Founded in 1932, SME is a professional organization advancing manufacturing technology and developing a skilled, educated workforce. SME supports engineers, students, and industry professionals through education, certification, events, and community.

SME UH (Student Chapter S079) is the University of Houston's chapter of the national SME, housed in the Cullen College of Engineering, Technology Division. Our mission is to create well-rounded future engineers in manufacturing and other related fields by closing the gap between students and industry.

We offer a chance to meet like-minded engineering students to discuss everything that is available on the table. We also provide all members a community where you can connect with alumni, friends, ... to find a place that you can fit in while enjoying all the fun activities together.
We ensure that each member gets a chance to talk to industry professionals and alumni, allowing everyone to have such opportunity to grow, make connections, and build a better portfolio. We also provide events that help all students develop their own technical skills.
